9 CrossFit Gym Characters: Which one are you
The CrossFit Games are a competition held every year where athletes compete against each other for money and glory. Each athlete competes with their own unique training program, which they must follow to win the games. There have been many famous competitors from all over the world who have won these competitions including Ryan Hall (American), Brad Gillingham (Australian) and Mark Twight (Canadian). These events are very popular among people who want to get fit or just like watching others do it.
9 CrossFit Gym Characters
Gym Character #1: Greg Glassman
Greg Glassman is a Canadian fitness guru and owner of the CrossFit gym chain known as “Glassman Fitness”. He was born in Toronto, Ontario and moved to Vancouver when he was six years old. At age 19, he opened his first CrossFit gym called “CrossFit Yaletown” in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. He later changed the name to “Glassman Fitness” after moving to Vancouver’s West End.
He currently owns and operates four gyms across Canada, one in Australia, two in New Zealand and one in Dubai. His most recent location is located at 614 Robson Street, Vancouver BC V6B 1J8.
His main focus is on building a strong community through fitness classes that provide a stress-free way to stay healthy while having fun! He believes that he can achieve this through his own passion and spirit.
Gym Character #2: Jayden
Jayden is a 21-year-old personal trainer and CrossFit athlete who lives and trains in Vancouver, British Columbia. He stands at 5’10” and weighs 185 pounds. He has competed in the past five CrossFit games, placing 31st in 2017, 17th in 2016, 22nd in 2015, 16th in 2014 and 49th in 2013.
He is from the industrial town of Trail, B.C. where he played ice hockey for the Trail Smoke Eaters and was drafted to the NHL at 18 years old. He decided instead to focus on his education and pursued a degree in business management from the University of Victoria. While at the University of Victoria, he joined their CrossFit team and quickly became one of the top players in the region.
In 2016, he placed 17th at the Reebok CrossFit Games after leading for three days. In 2017, he had a solid showing at the 2017 CrossFit games with a placement of 31st.
Gym Character #3: Becca
Becca is a 32-year-old CrossFitter from Victoria, B.C. who has also placed at the CrossFit Games in the past. She has earned several regional titles, including one at the 2013 Victoria Weightlifting Championships and another at the 2015 Sooke Classic.
While she isn’t competing at the moment, her best personal record snatch is 70 kgs. (although she can lift far beyond that weight) and her best clean and jerk is 90 kgs.
She also coaches CrossFit classes at a local gym in Victoria. She is currently training to qualify for the 2018 CrossFit games.
Gym Character #4: Lisa
Lisa is a 29-year-old nurse and CrossFitter from Victoria, B.C. who also competes at the Reebok CrossFit games on a regular basis. Lisa has been playing sports her whole life, starting off with gymnastics at the age of three and competitive swimming at seven.
She took a break from competitive sports after high school to focus on her education, but soon realized she needed more and started CrossFit in 2013. Since then she has placed well in multiple competitions across Canada and the U.S., including a second-place finish at the 2017 Nor-Cal Open and eight place at the 2017 CrossFit games.
Her best snatch is 100 kgs. while her best clean and jerk is 117 kgs..
She is known for her consistency and endurance in CrossFit competitions.
Gym Character #5: Cam
Cam is a 31-year-old Crossfitter from Kelowna, B.C. who got his start in the sport after watching his girlfriend compete at the 2013 Reebok CrossFit games. After being introduced to the sport he placed second at the 2014 Okanagan qualifier and went on to place 17th in the world in his division that year.
After going through a rough patch in 2016 Cam managed to qualify for the 2017 games finishing in 10th place, a feat he is proud of considering how he was feeling during the competition. He has stated that he’s hoping to improve upon his 2017 placing in 2018.
His best snatch is 175 kgs. and he can clean and jerk over 200 kgs.
Gym Character #6: Rob
Rob is a 33-year-old former professional springboard and platform diver from Victoria, B.C. who started CrossFit after sustaining an injury that prevented him from diving any longer. After starting the sport, he managed to qualify for the 2014 Reebok CrossFit games and placed 27th at the competition.
Since then he has become well known for his incredibly fast gymnastic movements and abilities, which have helped him win several competitions across North America. His best lifts include a 175-kg. snatch and a 202-kg. clean and jerk.
His favorite movements in CrossFit are the muscle-up and the Thruster.
Gym Character #7: Carla
Carla is a 46-year-old Real Estate Agent from Victoria, B.C. who started her CrossFit journey with a partner as a way to stay in shape. She was then invited to compete at the 2013 CrossFit games and managed to finish in 15th place overall.
She trains six days a week and has stated her favorite movements are “anything that gets her breath,” and that her least favorite is “anything with a dumbbell.” While her favorite workout is “anything with a barbell,” she states that she’s never enjoyed running.
She’s often stated that while she plans on sticking around in the sport for a long time, she has no desire to ever go back to school to “see if she can do even better.”
Gym Character #8: Ben
Ben is a 28-year-old Crossfitter from Victoria, B.C. who started the sport after his sister got him into it. After deciding he wanted to pursue the sport more seriously, he moved from Victoria to Kelowna where there was a more established CrossFit community.
He managed to qualify for the 2017 Reebok CrossFit games after winning the 2016 Nor-Cal Regional. At the 2017 games he managed to place 23rd in the world in his age group. He’s stated his favorite movements are double-unders and snatches while his least favorite are wall-ball shots and handstand pushups.
While many of the other characters have stated they enjoy a balanced diet, Ben has mentioned he prefers to eat more meat and less carbs as fuel, and that he tries to avoid fruit because “he hates eating something that had a face.”
Gym Character #9: Jennifer
Jennifer is a 24-year-old Crossfitter from Victoria, B.C. who trains at CrossFit Fortis and started CrossFit after her boyfriend introduced her to the sport in 2014.
