Anecdote: European Championships in Amsterdam
The following is an anecdote about the European Championships of 2013, that was held in Amsterdam:
Lucas is a great Cross-country runner and has won the Cross-country Running World Championships twice (in 2000 and 2005). He has been competing in this sport for almost 20 years.
One day, some runners decided to go sightseeing in Amsterdam since they were there holding a Cross-country race. Lucas, who was one of the participants and who had arrived to Amsterdam a couple of days earlier, joined them.
When they got into the city center, one of the runners wanted to take a picture in front of a big street painting. The artist was there painting something that looked like a weird monster, but it was actually a portrait of Lucas. Lucas thought it looked very much like him, so he asked the artist to write his name next to the portrait.
When the other runners saw what Lucas had done, they all wanted to have their pictures taken next to the portrait too. The artist was so surprised and grateful for all this publicity that he gave them all a discount on the portraits.
Lucas didn’t buy a portrait for himself, but as it turned out, he really liked the portrait of him that the artist had drawn.
