BoxLife Fitness Training #606: CrossFit Brattyness
by Joe Tatum (Editor)
The first thing I want to say is that if you are not familiar with CrossFit, then it’s time to get acquainted. You might think that you have no interest in the sport, but trust me when I tell you that there are many reasons why you should give it a try. First off, it’s free! That alone will entice you into giving it a shot. Second, the workouts are varied enough that they appeal to everyone.
Thirdly, the equipment is cheap and easy to obtain. Fourthly, the coaches are great at teaching you how to properly perform each exercise. Finally, there is nothing like seeing your friends doing well in these workouts after having them train with you. If you’re still not convinced, consider this: CrossFit is a group workout where you work out together as a team. There are no individual records or anything like that. Instead, the goal is to see who can complete the most reps within the allotted time period. For example, let’s say you and three other guys want to do 10 pull ups in 15 seconds. Well, that means that all four of you would need to be working together for fifteen minutes straight without stopping. Even if one of you can’t do a pull up, you’ll still get full credit for being there.
And if you can do more than 10 pull ups?
Then you’re going to be in for a treat!
Of course, not every workout is going to be like this, but the fact remains that working together as a group is an essential part of CrossFit. That, more than anything, is what’s going to draw you into the experience. You’ll feel like you’re part of a large community. It’s a great way to lose weight and get into shape because you’ll be constantly motivated by your peers. And if you happen to fall behind, don’t worry because your Coaches are always there to lend a helping hand (literally!)
Did I mention that this endeavor is completely free?
It doesn’t matter if you’re rich or poor, young or old, big or small, there is no reason why you shouldn’t at least try it out. I urge you right now to find a local CrossFit facility and try it out for yourself. You’ll never know if you like it or not unless you actually try it. For those of you who are already hooked on CrossFit, read on to learn about the top ten reasons why you like this fitness regimen so much!
10. It’s a great way to get in shape
This is obvious, but many people overlook it. Just because CrossFit is a group workout program, that doesn’t mean that you don’t get individual attention. In fact, the opposite is true. Your coaches are there to make sure you’re doing every exercise correctly before putting full effort into them. This not only prevents you from getting hurt, but it also allows you to get the most out of your training.
With the help of your coaches, and the motivation of your fellow CrossFitters, losing weight and getting into shape will inevitably become a reality.
9. It’s the closest thing to real life
You see movies and television shows all the time about superheroes with amazing abilities. While it’s fun to watch fictional characters defying the laws of nature, you know deep down that you’re no superhero. Well, CrossFit brings that reality back home to you. There will be times when the workload will be more than you can handle. This isn’t a problem because there are plenty of people at your gym to help you out.
You may not be able to lift a helicopter over your head or leap across buildings in a single bound, but you won’t need to! With the help of your friends (both old and new), you’ll be able to conquer almost any challenge that’s put in front of you.
8. It keeps you from getting bored
Is counting calories getting a little too monotonous for you?
Well, if you’re getting bored of your current workout program, then there are plenty of other options to choose from at your local CrossFit facility. Since different workouts are assigned each day, you’ll never get bored. If you still can’t find anything that peaks your interest, you can always create a workout routine of your own. This is one of the major benefits of joining a CrossFit gym, there are so many different routines you can try that it’s nearly impossible to get bored.
7. It builds camaraderie
CrossFit gyms tend to attract a certain type of person, for good reason of course. Everyone there wants to better themselves. Whether it’s losing weight, getting into shape, or winning the CrossFit Games, you can always find someone at your gym who shares the same goal as you. This creates a unique environment in which everyone is supportive of each other. It doesn’t matter if you’re the least skilled member of the gym or a seasoned veteran, you’ll still get help from everyone else if you should need it.
