Jason Khalipa is one of the most successful athletes in CrossFit. He was born and raised in New Jersey, but now resides in Colorado Springs with his wife and two children. Born into a family of wrestlers, he began training at age 12 under the tutelage of his father. At 15 he moved to California where he continued to train under Greg Glassman and Joe DeFranco. By 18, Jason had won numerous national championships including the Mr. Universe competition. He then went on to win the US Open three times. In 1993 he became the first American man to complete a full Iron Man triathlon (3 days, 6 hours, 52 miles).

In 1996 he founded CrossFit which quickly grew from a small group of friends to an international movement with over 50 affiliates around the world. Since its inception it has become one of the fastest growing sports in America and worldwide. Jason’s success has been due to his ability to combine intense physical activity with high intensity training. He has described himself as “the best example of what happens when two things go together.”

He is known for his extreme workouts, which are often compared to those performed by bodybuilders. His workout routines have included everything from a 7 day split, through 5×5, up to the 10 minute mile interval workout. He attributes his ability to complete WODs (Workout of the Day) so quickly to his mastery of gymnastics.

While many have sought to emulate his success, very few have achieved it. He has won the South West Regional 3 times and is a 6 time winner of the Nor-Cal Open. In 2013 he won the South West Region for the 4th time in a row and went on to win the Games for the first time. He has been featured in the New York Times, ESPN Magazine, and Outside Magazine.

He is regarded as one of the fittest men in the world.
