Predicting 15.5—Week 5 of the CrossFit Games Open

The first week of the CrossFit Games Open is over and it was a great one! The athletes did their best to show up in top condition for this event. There were some upsets, but overall there wasn’t much drama or surprises. Some athletes had good performances while others didn’t perform as well as they could have.

Here are the predictions from our experts:

Kelsey Hightower (USA) – 16th place out of 21 competitors. She finished with a time of 1hr 19min 14sec which is only 2 minutes and 17 seconds behind her closest competitor. That’s not bad considering she didn’t train all week and just came back from vacation! I think Kelsey will do better next year when she trains harder.

Caitlin Leverette (USA) – Caitlin finished 8th out of 10 competitors. Her time was 1hr 30mins 42sec which is 3 minutes and 39 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor. She had a tough competition schedule due to travel, but she still managed to finish strong! I’m really impressed with how she performed at this level.

Bethany Hamilton (Canada) – Bethany finished 4th out of 6 competitors. Her time was 1hr 40min 23sec which is only 30 seconds behind her closest competitor. She seemed to have a rough day at the office, but she’s strong and will do better next year!

Camila Dutra (Brazil) – Camila finished 2nd out of 4 competitors. Her time was 1hr 13min 32sec which is only 33 seconds behind her nearest competitor. She had a good first go and I think she’ll continue to improve as the year goes on!

Lisa Rainsberger (USA) – Lisa finished 1st out of 4 competitors. Her time was 1hr 3min 27sec which is only 2 minutes and 3 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor. She seemed to crush the other females this week, but it was close! I think she’ll do well in the future.

This coming week’s event is 15.5 and it will consist of the following:

Complete as many rounds and reps as possible in 12 minutes of:

5 handstand push-ups

10 footfacing-width jumps

15 overhead squats (95 / 65 lb.)

In this event you can modify the handstand push-ups to jumping jack-like movements and the overhead squats to partial squats (the top of the squat for you beginners). I think the athletes who will do well are the ones who can do a lot of repetitions in these 3 exercises. Some of the athletes will try to go for time while others will try to go for distance. It’ll be interesting to see what happens.
