CrossFit is one of the most popular fitness programs in America. CrossFit was founded by Greg Glassman in 2003 and it’s been growing rapidly ever since. According to its website, there are over 100 affiliates worldwide with more than 500,000 members at any given time.

Its main goal is to provide “the best possible training experience” through “functional movement.”

Glassman has stated that he started the program because he wanted to create a better workout routine for himself and his friends. He says, “I didn’t want to do something like what other gyms were doing; I just wanted to come up with my own thing that would make me feel good every single day.”

As far as popularity goes, CrossFit has grown immensely since its inception. There are now thousands of affiliate locations around the world, and many of them have more than 5,000 members.

CrossFit has become so successful that it’s even made appearances on TV shows such as “MythBusters,” which featured a few CrossFit affiliates in their episode titled “Is It Safe?”

In fact, according to a report from Forbes magazine, CrossFit has been estimated to generate $100 million dollars annually in revenue. It’s come a long way since it started as a one-man operation in a Santa Cruz garage.

CrossFit has even gone so far as to create the CrossFit Games, where the “fittest man and woman” are crowned every summer. It sounds like the stuff of fiction, but it’s very real. The Games include a combination of CrossFit exercises, and then also have elements of sprinting and endurance.

This past summer, the games were held in Madison, Wisconsin. They included a mix of push-ups, sit-ups, pull-ups, squats, and running. The events ranged from the 50-meter kayak paddle to the 1,000-meter run.

In addition to that, there was a combined effort of teams putting together pieces of a 275-pound tire before setting it on fire and then having to jump through the flames.

You might think that this is a bit extreme, but the competition is heating up and it’s only going to get worse. At the moment, the top prize for winning the games is $285,000. If you think about how many individuals and teams compete every year, you’ll quickly realize how much money CrossFit has made through this endeavor alone.

In terms of facilities, CrossFit doesn’t have any real presence outside of the internet. There are no CrossFit gyms that have excessive equipment or anything like that. The focus is on doing everything that you need to do with the equipment you have at that given moment.

In fact, most CrossFit facilities don’t even have showers!

The point of CrossFit is finding a way to get in shape using the resources you already have access to. If this sounds challenging to you, then it might be time to start finding a way to incorporate CrossFit into your life.

So—is CrossFit the 2020 Open Workout?

The rumors are swirling, as every year the first workout of the CrossFit Open is a surprise. But given that CrossFit has grown exponentially in the past few years, and with the sheer number of affiliates currently operating worldwide, it might not come as a surprise if next year’s CrossFit Open contained some kind of CrossFit-themed workout.

If this does turn out to be the case, you’ll have to be prepared. The only way to do this is through CrossFit training. And if you don’t have easy access to a CrossFit facility, there are plenty of tools online to help you prepare for the 2020 CrossFit Open.
