Quadricep muscles are the most powerful muscle group in your body. They have been used for centuries in combat. You may think that they are not useful in everyday life but if you do some research, you will see that they play a major role in almost every activity that requires strength or power such as running, jumping, climbing stairs and so on.
If you want to become stronger, you need to work out your quads.
The Quadriceps Are Important For Running
Running is one of the best ways to build up your legs. Running helps improve balance and coordination which are essential for all sports activities. You can run faster when you practice these skills regularly.
Also, running increases blood flow to the muscles and improves circulation which results in better recovery time after exercise.
If you want to increase your speed while running, then you must develop your quads. There are many types of exercises that can help you improve your running technique. One of them is the squatting exercise.
Squatting involves bending forward at the waist with both feet and holding onto something like a wall or a pole. You keep pushing yourself back up until you feel pain in any part of your lower body. When you start squatting, you might find it hard to get back up but with regular practice and proper form, you will notice a huge difference in your speed.
The “Air” Squat
The “air” squat is one of the best ways to strengthen your quads. It involves standing upright with your legs apart, feet shoulder width apart and toes pointing out at an angle. Then bend your upper body down and bring your arms close to your body.
Then rise back up again keeping your knees directly above your toes. It is important that you only go as low as is comfortable for you. You can do this exercise slowly or fast depending on what you prefer. If it gets too easy, then you can always add some weights to make it more challenging.
This is a great exercise for your quadriceps, hamstrings and your glutes. It is also considered to be a total body exercise because it works more than one muscle group at the same time. In fact, some people even consider the lunge to be better for you than running because it works so many muscles at once.
