The 2016 CrossFit Open—How to Do It and Make It a Success
The 2016 CrossFit Games Open will take place from May 24th through June 3rd at the StubHub Center in Carson, California. There are currently two events: the men’s and women’s elite divisions. The top finishers in each division advance to compete in the finals on July 15th. The first event was held last year on April 30th with only one day of competition (and no women’s division). That event had over 500 competitors from all around the world!
There are many factors that go into selecting the athletes who will represent their country at the 2016 CrossFit Games Open. These include age, weight class, experience level, fitness level, and much more. The following section details some of these considerations.
The youngest athlete eligible to compete in the 2016 CrossFit Games Open is 14 years old. Athletes must be 16 or older to enter the 2016 CrossFit Games Open.
Athletes competing in the 2016 CrossFit Games Open may weigh between 145 pounds and 185 pounds. Weight classes were determined based on body fat percentage and height. A minimum of 1.5 inches of subcutaneous fat is required for a competitor to be classified as a “light” weight.
The minimum height for a male competitor is 5’0″ and the minimum height for a female competitor is 4’10”. If an athlete’s height falls outside of these parameters, he or she may still compete in the 2016 CrossFit Games Open but will be considered a “long” or “super-heavy” weight.
Age and weight classes are not factors when determining division during the 2016 CrossFit games Open. All women will compete against each other and all men will compete against one another. When determining winners, the youngest competitor in a heat will be awarded first place, the next youngest will be awarded second, and so on. The same principle applies to men’s classes. If there is a tie for any place, then those athletes will all move on to the next round.
Skill and Experience Level
In order to accommodate the wide range of skills and experience possessed by potential 2016 CrossFit Games Open competitors, a system of heats and events designed to challenge each competitor equally will be put in place.
The 2016 CrossFit Games Open will feature two competition days. On each of these days there will be a total of 6 different events. Each athlete will compete in 3 of these events.
